The Ambulance

I hear it ,every night, painfully whistling  a solemn tune;
rushing to yet another hopeless rescue of yet another wasted life.
Its wheels leave a trail of anxiety in their wake,
As they quickly dance away to an unrehearsed scene.
The cruelty of time plays an evil game with life
As death’s latest target fights for one more glimpse at hope.
Sweat soaks the steering wheel as the mechanical angel
Meanders her way in and out of forgotten alleys,
Seeking the one place where a child is at deaths reach.
She forgets the law with each red-eyed robot that comes her way,
For fate obeys no law.
Driven by love and fueled by passion,
She slowly comes to a halt as she reaches
The ones who had been tearfully waiting for her.
They are silent, but their eyes pose a million questions.
What had taken her so long?
She cannot answer at a time where only questions can be asked.
The young man is gently placed
Deep in the depths of her stomach; In her womb.
Secure in life saving support, death has no place.
For life has been given one more moment with the child.
They stand ,just as they had been when she had come,
praying for a better day.
